Just getting back from spending 10 days on the road with my hubby. We started in Rockford, IL (cheap flight from St. Pete.), rented a car and drove over 1300 miles to end up back in Rockford.
The first night we (meaning Ken) drove from Rockford to Chicago in the pouring rain (is there a song there?). We spent the weekend with my cousin Teresa and her hubby Mark and their 3 cats. They hosted a BBQ on Saturday, so we also got to visit with most of my aunts, uncles & cousins who live in the Chicago area.
If you look REALLY close, you can see the Chicago skyline off in the distance. From here we headed back north into Michigan and spent the night in Holland, MI.
I think the most wonderful part about a driving vacation with my hubby, Ken, is that we stay off the Interstate highways. We take back roads, scenic routes, and detours that carry us through some of the nicest small towns! We stop at any and all “scenic overlooks”, visit local parks and try to dine in the “local” restaurants rather than the chains.
